Bipolar Funhouse

 Bipolar disorder is often described as a roller coaster, but roller coasters allow you to see the ups, downs, twists & turns ahead. You have the choice to walk away.  Bipolar doesn’t give you previews or choices. You just have to hold on for what may be the scariest ride of your life.

Bipolar is more like a funhouse. You never know what to expect.


You enter a funhouse through a hall of mirrors. You hate mirrors, but you don’t let it bother you.


Suddenly you find yourself trapped in a dark maze feeling scared & hopeless, you just want it to end. You finally climb out of the darkness. Nothing can stop you now.


Confidently you go into last room & the floor begins to move. You jump, not the best idea, but it’s a ride & you’re not going to wait around. You’re unstable, but love the adrenaline rush. You finally reach the end


After all is said & done, you’re congratulated, but you don’t deserve that. You’re secretly angry, you shouldn’t have struggled, but you’re too crazy & stupid not to. This is life with Bipolar Disorder.

  I was born with Spina Bifida, which basically means that my spine didn’t form correctly. Yes, my spine is the reason why I can’t walk, so why is it that  a surgeon felt the need to tell me that the hip surgery I had when I was 11 wasn’t going to allow me to walk unaided. Wait what?! The insane things I’ve heard as a person with a disability.

  Imagine you’re walking down the street and see  a man who is of an ethnicity different than your own. Would you ask him why his skin is that color? Would you ask him why he’s not female? Are you going to stare at this man and tell him that he’s an inspiration for doing every day things? Would you ask this man if he’s able to have sex?  I’m guessing that the answers to the above questions are all no because that would be weird and make you look like a total creep. So now my question is, why are the rules different when that person has a disability?  I was born with Spina Bifida and I have been paraplegic, using a manual wheelchair, my entire life.
